The formula
First we work out today's bill: every ticket × the time a person spends × their hourly pay. Then the AI version: only the tickets that still need a person, plus the AI's own cost and your platform fee. The gap between the two is your monthly saving, and the setup cost divided by that saving tells you how long until it pays for itself.
Questions
How many tickets does AI need to handle before it pays off?
Enough that the staff time it saves beats what the AI and platform cost. The calculator works out that exact break-even point from your own numbers.
What share of tickets can AI realistically handle?
A well-set-up bot with good help docs usually fully handles 40–70% of tickets. Tricky or regulated areas sit lower; simple FAQ-heavy ones sit higher.
How long until it pays for itself?
Most support projects earn back their setup cost within a few months. If it's taking more than a year, the bot probably isn't handling enough tickets, or the platform costs too much.
